Christian Pulisic should look at leaving Chelsea, suggests Peter Schmeichel

Peter Schmeichel suggests £150k-a-week Chelsea player should copy Timo Werner and leave Stamford Bridge

Peter Schmeichel has suggested that Christian Pulisic should leave Chelsea.

Pulisic, who joined the Blues back in 2019, has definitely had an up and down career so far at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old winger produced a match-winning assist in Chelsea’s Champions League victory against Red Bull Salzburg last night, but it was a rare start for him this season. In fact, he’s only started three games so far this campaign.

With the World Cup just around the corner, it’s been far from ideal preparation for the United States international going into the major tournament.

What To Expect From England At The 2022 World Cup?

Schmeichel thinks that Pulisic should take a leaf out of Timo Werner’s book, who exited Chelsea in the summer to rejoin RB Leipzig. Werner had a turbulent time with the Blues that often led to criticism about his attacking output, but the forward has rediscovered his golden touch with eight goals in 14 matches for Leipzig this season.

? WORLD CUP NEWS

Schmeichel suggests a transfer exit after the World Cup could make perfect sense for Pulisic.

“I think what you have to take into the equation is how long is a footballer’s career? How many years can you actually play at the top? How many years are you prepared to not play? For Timo Werner to go back [to RB Leipzig], he wants to play,” Schmeichel told CBS Sports.

“I think for someone like Pulisic, I don’t think he’ll get many chances at Chelsea, not the way they bought in the summer. I think it’s a great time now, a great opportunity. There’s a World Cup there, he will get a run in the team, he will have a good World Cup and the January transfer window is coming up. I think that’s an opportunity for him.”

His future

As it stands, Pulisic is still under contract with Chelsea until 2024. It’s worth pointing out he’s been linked with a potential departure, though.

Calcio Mercato recently claimed that AC Milan are interested in signing Pulisic next year.

For now, he should be focused on these next few games with Chelsea before the World Cup.

The £150,000-a-week wide man has actually looked quite sharp in some recent cameo performances, plus he made the most of his start yesterday against Red Bull Salzburg.

However, can he work his way into Graham Potter’s side more regularly?
